Edith Liepa

Ottawa artist Edith Liepa's energetic watercolours, pastels and mixed media paintings have attracted the attention of local art lovers for many years and won her numerous awards.

Edith studied under Henri Masson, Alma Duncan and Brodie Shearer, among others, and has evolved a distinctive style of her own. In addition to her outstanding contributions to such organizations as the Ottawa Watercolour Society and the Ottawa Art Association, her work has been shown in juried exhibitions of the Pastel Society of Canada and the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour (CSPWC), as well as dozens of local shows.

Whatever the medium, Edith's paintings are characterized by their vigorous impressionistic handling of form and colour. The approach may be whimsical or studied, but the results are always an engaging mix of familiar subject matter, like fruit, flowers, or glassware, and great painterly freedom.

Not surprisingly, her works have received several “Awards of Excellence” and “Best in Show” and have become part of many corporate and private collections in Canada, U.S.A., Britain, Switzerland and the Philippines.
